And as for the list of things Mad Dog is frightened of (since I'm apparently into lists this week), add fire hydrants. Ours is the only dog on the planet who will not go near a fire hydrant.

I have a golden retriever who grabs a pillow off the bed, then stands with it in his mouth and whines if the bedroom door isn't wide open. He's afraid the pillow (no matter how soft) will bang against the door or frame and hurt him. He also whines if there is an object in his path that would make him brush against the wall. Once the object is moved he will run by. He is otherwise a very smart dog. We wonder what terrible trauma befell him as a puppy.
