While I agree with most of what Buchanan said, his comments about the Great Society don't stand up.
Yes, GS caused upheaval at the time. But they brought about integration, lowered poverty, bolstered enfranchisement, and created many successful programs for the underprivileged. Today many of these programs are considered seminal and valued as entitlements.
By saying that the failure and upheaval of Iraq is like the upheaval of the Great Society, he only bolsters Condi's point that there will be success eventually.
Other than that he's right on the money. She has done little to earn her stripes, and unless she steps up she will be a failure as an SS. Add to that the fact that the elections she loves so dearly are often rigged, unfair and end with radicals in power (cough) Iran.
They all need to come down off their high pedestals, before an RPG blows their Ivory Tower to shreds.

I don't agree with him at all on the Great Society point, but I don't think him taking that shot undermines his greater logic about Iraq.

If it weren't his dramatic conclusion, it wouldn't take such a shot at his theory.
Like I said, I agree with him. But it seemed a dumb way to end. Esp. since he could have just left it out.
